Iran during Persian New Year
Tehran - Yazd - Esfahan - Abyaneh - Kashan - Qom - Mashad
· 19.3. We are arriving in the biggest city of Iran, Tehran. Welcome to Iran for the unusual holidays. The first stop is a Tehran Bazaar full of Iranian flags, built in the 7th century, which is one of the top 5 biggest bazaars in the world. We will have a look at the Golestan Palace and brutalist architecture of Tehran - the Telecommunication building and the Dr. Fatemi Building, followed by the former American embassy with anti-American street art and Tajrish bazaar in north Tehran. For the evening, we will go to Darband Valley in the mountains for dinner.
· 20.3. Today we drive to the villages close to the Damavand, 5690 meters mountain in Iran. We will see how the people celebrate Nowruz (Persian New Year), which is today. After reaching 3000 meters altitude and the late lunch, we will continue to Tehran, where we will visit 435 the 435-meter-high Milad Tower overlooking the 17 million megapolis. In the evening, we will have tea in a 500-year-old teahouse with Narghile and spend time in central Tehran during the New Year´s celebrations.
· 21.3. In the morning, we will fly to beautiful Yazd, the city of windcatchers. Taste of Afghan bread in the bakery, visit the Zoroastrian temple of the oldest religion born in this part of the world, following the bazaar and mosques, visit the Jamé mosque and Amir Chakhmaq complex. The city was located on the old Silk Road, and even Alexander the Great crossed Yazd during his journeys. Afternoon, we will see the cultural activity called Zurkaneh - the sport mixed with the dancing practiced by the local men. After the local dinner, we will have tea in the old streets of Yazd.
· 22.3. After breakfast, we will have a look at the ruins of Yazd, which the government has not renovated yet. After lunch, we will head for the desert experience at Dash-e Lut. The village life here is tough, people have camels and other animals. We will stay in a local house and after a beautiful sunset have dinner here. The hospitality of the Iranian people is priceless. Persians are a very old and educated culture, and you can feel that here. We spent the night in the desert.
· 23.3. We will wake up early morning for a sunrise and climb the dune near our village to enjoy the view and have a morning meditation for those in favor. After a local breakfast, drive to Esfahan - half of the world, as the Iranian people used to say. After arriving and a break, we will go to one of the biggest squares in the world, the Shah Square, including the big Esfahan bazaar. We have tea at the viewpoint of the square, including the local gallery of Persian art. The place overlooks the amazing architectural piece - the Sheikh Loftollah Mosque.
· 24.3. We will visit the Sheikh Loftollah Mosque, empty and peaceful in the morning. This building is a masterpiece of its own with a 32-meter-high dome. Later, we visit the Shah Mosque. We will walk through the busy main shopping street with a lot of options for great food. Through the historical Khaju Bridge, we will get to the Armenian part of Jolfa with a beautiful Armenian church. This is one of the most luxurious in town. Less touristy Imam Ali Square and the Jame Mosque with a local market where we will spend the afternoon. In the evening, we will enjoy the hustle and bustle and food at the bazaar.
· 25.3. The red brick mud village of Abyaneh in the center of the country is a first plan for today. A beautiful place, special with its history, language, and also ladies with the typical clothing typical for this place only. We will have a look at the local architecture, shrines, and local village life. Afternoon, we will drive to Kashan. We will visit Agha Bozorg Mosque, one of the most beautiful mosques in Iran, the beautiful authentic Kashaan bazaar, and a very old Narghile place with typical drinks and serving of dates and dry fruits, which is typical for this part of the world.
· 26.3. Today we drive to Tehran with a stop in the holy city of Qom, this is the place where Imam Khomeini, the leader of the Iranian revolution and the first supreme leader, studied. From Tehran, we will fly to the holiest place in Iran and the second-biggest city of Mashhad. Afternoon, we will walk to the places where millions of pilgrims come to pay respect to Imam Reza, the martyr of Shia Islam. We will walk the bazaar and get lost in the small streets of a very young city by Persian standards, just 1000 years old.
· 27.3. On our last day, we will visit Kang village in the morning. After an hour's drive, we reach a 3000-year-old village in the mountains. The hospitality and kindness of the people in this place have no limits. Afternoon, we come back and go shopping at the bazaar. Iranians are well known for the Persian carpets and beautiful artisanal products. Last time we see the Iran flag with the national emblem. End of the tour.
